The Morning Call Endorses Jim Maza in the 24th Senate District

PENNSBURG, October 29 – The Allentown-based Morning Call today endorsed Jim Maza, the Democratic candidate for State Senate in the 24th District. Today’s endorsement is the third in the last ten days for Maza, having already received the endorsement of the Philadelphia Inquirer and Easton Express-Times.

“…We believe Mr. Maza’s experience in local government gives him a better grasp of the issues, including education, prescription drugs and medical malpractice reform” noted the editorial.

“Mr. Maza understands a leader must first listen and learn,” observed the editorial. “He believes in regional cooperation without losing local control.”

The Morning Call emphasized the peculiar shape and composition of the newly redrawn 24th district, noting “’gerrymandered’ is not too strong a word.” The editorial also cited that, “[Maza] accepts that many in the Lehigh Valley think having two Montgomery County candidates contending for the oddly drawn district leaves them on the outside.”

Maza expressed gratitude for the endorsement and acknowledged the challenges the redrawn 24th District presents.

“This was a district no one wanted and which disenfranchised voters throughout it,” said Maza. “The endorsement of the Morning Call is confirmation of our efforts and belief that hard work and straight talk with voters can overcome the obstacles of this four county district.”
